Overview
Cheonggyecheon Stream begins at Cheonggye Plaza which is located across Sejong-ro Boulevard. Cheonggye Plaza roughly covers an area of 2,500 square meters and is situated at the point where it begins Cheonggyecheon Stream. The square is inspired by the style of the traditional Korean bojagi (a colourful wrap-around cloth) and features the sophisticated elegance of stonework from the past which is vibrant yet refined. The plaza also has an image of Cheonggyecheon which offers visitors an aerial perspective of the newly restored Cheonggyecheon Stream. In the plaza, there are plaques with detailed descriptions of the 22 bridges which span the stream, as with a variety of elegant fountains that enhance the atmosphere of the place. The park is dedicated to this project Cheonggyecheon Stream Restoration Project, and also represents gathering, harmony, peace and peace.
Following Cheonggye Plaza was completed Cheonggye Plaza, Seoul Metropolitan Government declared the area a no-car zone during holidays which meant more time for pedestrians. Since then, the waterways in Cheonggyecheon Stream, and the streets surrounding it have become popular spots for people seeking refreshments as well as various cultural experiences. One of the most popular is Cheonggyecheon Stream’s Candle fountain, which boasts the stunning synchronicity of three different lighting fixtures as well as an impressive four-meter high, two-tiered waterfall. On both side of the fountain is the Palseokdam Wishing wells, which are composed of eight different stones that are from each of the nation’s eight provinces.
